Lionel W. Sorenson, MD
A pioneer Bay Area ophthalmologist, Dr. Lionel Sorenson has fostered a tradition of service in the East Bay. He served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSF, President of the Alta Bates Medical Center Staff, and participated actively in Berkeley Rotary for 45 years. Dr. Sorenson is one of the first regional ophthalmologists to offer Argon Laser therapy for Diabetic Retinopathy and other retinal diseases and was a pioneer in cataract surgical implants. Dr. Sorenson currently maintains a comprehensive ophthalmology practice.
Robert L. Sorenson, MD
Dr. Robert Sorenson is a comprehensive ophthalmologist, with a special interest in cataract surgery. Following his residency training at California Pacific Medical Center, Dr. Sorenson completed a one-year fellowship in medical retina, also at CPMC. He began practice in Berkeley with his father in 1984. He has been active in Berkeley Rotary since 1986. In 1987, he began making regular trips to the Hospital de la Familia in Nuevo Progreso, Guatemala, where his teams provide eye care and surgery to local residents.
Andrew L. Sorenson, MD
Dr. Andrew Sorenson specializes in LASIK and refractive surgery, corneal transplantation and cataract surgery. Following his residency training at California Pacific Medical Center, Dr. Sorenson completed a one-year fellowship in refractive and corneal surgery at Duke University Eye Center. Dr. Sorenson serves as Medical Director of the UC Berkeley Refractive Surgery Center, Chief of Ophthalmology at Alta Bates Medical Center and Chair of the Refractive Surgery Division of the CPMC Ophthalmology Residency program in San Francisco where he instructs the Residents in eye surgery. From 2000 to 2008 Dr. Sorenson served as the Medical Director of the Pacific Laser Eye Center in Danville.
Rebecca Sorenson Janik, MD
Dr. Rebecca Sorenson Janik specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery. She returned to the Bay Area in 2016 after completing her residency training at Penn State Hershey Eye Center, where she served as Chief Resident in her final year. Dr. Janik graduated from University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford University. She is thrilled to be back in the Bay Area and to be joining her grandfather, father and uncle as a third-generation member of the Sorenson practice.
Renée Hanson, OD
Dr. Renée Hanson (formerly Wyckoff) graduated from Pacific University, College of Optometry in 2003 in Forest Grove, Oregon. She completed her residency training in Pediatric Optometry and Primary Care at UC Berkeley and joined our practice in 2005. She particularly enjoys her contact lens practice and fitting specialty contact lenses such as multifocals, scleral, hybrid and keratoconus contact lenses. She enjoys running, yoga, gardening and cooking. She and her husband enjoy camping and hiking, and they recently became new parents to a baby boy in 2015.
Jamie Stonick, OD
Dr. Jamie Stonick graduated from The New England School of Optometry in Boston in 2003. She completed a residency in Ocular Disease and Primary Care at U.C. Berkeley from 2003-2004 and obtained her Glaucoma Certification in 2005. She joined our practice in 2008. Dr. Stonick lives with her fiancé in San Francisco and enjoys hiking, camping and traveling in her free time.
Yana Tsiganenko, OD
Dr. Yana Tsiganenko (“Dr. T”) received her Optometry degree at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2015. She completed specialty training in refractive surgery co-management, pediatrics, vision therapy, contact lenses, emergency care and ocular disease. On the weekends she volunteers as a co-leader with Trail Mavens empowering women with essential skills in the outdoors to adventure. When Dr. T is not in the office or on the trail she enjoys running, yoga, playing ukulele and creative projects.
