Description
Historic Gold Mine For Sale $1,320,000Kate Hardy-Omega Mines, Forest, California -- Alleghany Mining District • 36 Acres Patented Lode Claims. • 867 Acres of Unpatented Underground Lode and Placer Claims. • Past Production approx 25,000 ounces gold. • Direct Power and Water • Trammer (train), Tracks, Ore Cars, Mucking Machines • Hard Rock MILL ON SITE. • Good Access. Kate Hardy Hard Rock/Quartz Lode Mine Kate Hardy Information Complete treatment plan, installed train with ore cars and track, Flygt submersible de-watering system in place. A 325 foot shaft (equipped with electric hoist) gives access to two lower levels. Majority of mine is open and accessible, Mine is fully equipped (ventilation systems, air and water lines, lifted tunnels, etc.) and ready for exploration and development. Electric power is furnished directly to the mine by PG&E. Ample year-round water supply is provided by the Oregon Creek which flows through the middle of the property. Mine timbers are available on the property in unlimited quantities, and county maintained airfield of approx 2,500 feet in length is located two miles from the mine. Timber Rights Timber located on the patented claims can be sold on the open market from time to time. Timber on the unpatented claims can be used for mining operations on the property. History The Kate Hardy vein is one of the largest gold-quartz veins of the Alleghany Mining District. The southern extension of the vein is hidden under a capping of Tertiary Volcanics and has never been explored. This constitutes one of the most attractive exploration targets for high grade gold remaining in the Sierran gold belt of California. The property consists of two patented and 22 unpatented mining claims under a single ownership. The exposed portion of the vein has been worked on and off since 1860 and has produced 25,000 ounces of gold from 50,000 tons of vein material or 0.50 ounces of gold per tone of ore. (3.4 ounces per foot of development work). The Kate Hardy Mine was worked at intervals between 1860 and 1927. A prominent surface quartz vein on the south side of the oregon Creek attracted early miners to the area. During that time most of the production came from workings south of Oregon Creek. Between 1941 and 1953 the mine was leased by the O'Donnell brothers of Alleghany. In April of 1953, H.E. Hawn purchased the mine from the Beggs Estate and carried out limited development and production. Since the late 1950's the current family has owned the mine. From 1941 to the present, most of the mining and development has taken place north of Oregon Creek. Between the late 1970's and the early 1980's the mine was rehabilitated and attempts were made to access crown pillars near surface as well as extend the No 1 Level South drift. In the 1990's surface mapping of the Kate Hardy vein was completed at a scale of 1 inch to 100 feet and a total of 295 back channel samples were collected from the No. 1 South drift. In 1992 the property was optioned to the Brush Creek Mining Company (a Nevada corp.) for $1,500,000. The Brush Creek Mining Co. elected to work on other properties in their portfolio and no work was performed on the quartz mine of the Kate Hardy. The Brush Creek Mining Co. went out of business in 1997 and the control of the property reverted back to the current long term owners in 2000. At the present time, the portals of the main tunnels must be re-timbered and the mill repaired. The Kate hardy was in perfect working condition in 1992...the current price of $1,320,000 reflects the fact that restoration work must be done. The Kate Hardy vein is developed by over 6,600 feet of drifting on six levels. The workings explore 2,700 feet of strike length and 640 feet of dip. Approximately 2,000 feet, or 30 percent, of the total development is presently accessible. All workings beneath No. 1 levels north and south drifts are flooded and require de-watering -- pumping system is in place. The Brush Creek placer claim mainly provides control of land contiguous to the quartz veins and a tailing disposal site. There are currently 1,800 tons of broken ore in the 390 stope (No. 3 level south) which could be recovered and milled.Compared to most of the complex exploration projects in difficult and remote areas that are being promoted today, the Kate Hardy offers a relatively simple target that can be tested quite quickly and inexpensively. It also offers the possibility of high grade ore which is an important consideration. ---------------------------------------------------The Omega Placer Mine History The Omega Mine is a Drift placer mine, contiguous with and lying to the east of the Kate Hardy mine. Presently, the land holdings comprise 440 acres of unpatented placer claims. The majority of the mining was carried out during the 1920's and 1930's on a restricted portion of the exposed paleo channel. There was no activity on the claims until 1980 at which time the underground workings were completely re-mapped. A collapse of timbers approximately 250 feet from the portal prevented access during the autumn of 1990. A labyrinth of tunnels exceeding 2,000 feet was driven, mainly in pursuit of high grade pay streaks. Apparently no attempt was ever made to disclose a cross section of the channel, and likely the areas of potentially highest yield were never evaluated or mined. The tunnels were driven in the underlying serpentinite. Raises were driven to access potential stoping areas in the gravels. Most the of the gravel was found to be of igneous origin containing a small percentage of white quartz cobbles. Very little clay is present. The direction of the paleo channel is not well understood, however it is felt that these gravels represent an intervolcanic hiatus, unrelated to the ancestral Yuba River placers. Gold from the Omega mine was reported to vary from very fine to very coarse and the deposit has been described as being similar in character to the famous Black Channel at the Ruby mine that yielded nuggets as large as 73 ounces. During the mapping program in 1980, limited small scale sampling yielded good gold colours although the gold was small in dimension. The above descriptions of the Kate Hardy and the Omega mines are excerpts from Keewatin Engineering Inc. report dated April, 1991, Sidney Alderman, mining geologist report dated February 1985, and other professional sources. Many additional papers, reports, maps, photographs, and documents are available for inspection by serious buyers. Taxes and fees are paid on the claims, but the timber belongs to the government and cannot be sold, although timber on unpatented claims can be used in the mining operation.
